What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a treatment that heals by balancing energy within the body. Hair-thin needles are inserted gently and shallowly around the body in strategic areas to treat a variety of ailments.

The experience of acupuncture is in no way like having an injection and many patients barely feel anything as the needles are extremely thin. While each person experiences acupuncture differently, most people feel only a minimal amount of sensation.

Once the needles are in, you will experience a feeling of relaxation and well-being that lasts for many hours after the treatment.

Conditions Treated by Acupuncture

Acupuncture can be used to treat many types of health issues, including those that involve chronic and long-term pain:

  • Arthritis

Arthritis involves the swelling and tenderness of one or more joints and causes issues such as stiffness. Acupuncture can help reduce pain and inflammation by suppressing inflammatory responses, improving blood flow, and relaxing muscles.

  • Back Pain, Neck Pain, or Muscle Pain

Back pain, neck pain, and muscle pain can create a vicious cycle of tension and discomfort. Acupuncture can help release natural painkillers in the body to reduce stiffness as well as directly treat adhesions that are negatively impacting the connective tissues joining nerves and muscles.

  • Headaches and Migraines

Chronic headaches and painful migraines can significantly hinder a person’s day-to-day life. Migraines are headaches that cause severe pain accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound.

Our Acupuncturists can address headaches and migraines by focusing on specific pressure points (usually along your back or neck) where they can slow pain transmissions.

  • Menstrual Cramps

Women are no strangers to painful menstrual cycles and many endure a range of discomforts from cramps to migraines as well as nausea and dizziness.

Acupuncture stimulates blood flow to the uterus which can relax the muscles and reduce the contractions that cause painful cramping. It also increases endorphin release in the brain to minimize pain.

  • Sports Injuries

Sports injuries can range from strains and sprains to breaks and fractures. Acupuncture therapy can enhance healing and reduce pain in addition to strengthening the body, improving blood circulation, and supporting the organs to balance the flow of energy throughout the whole body.

  • Anxiety or Depression

Acupuncture can be extremely effective at calming the nervous system and reducing symptoms of anxiety. The severity of depression can also be dramatically reduced with acupuncture by breaking down the stagnant patterns of depression.
